Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. (Isaiah 40:1-5 KJV )

                                                                            Loran Wm. Helm, Israel 1993

Loran William Helm was a young boy when he heard God speak to him for the first time.  He was on a little journey for his mother, walking along the road in Windsor, Indiana in 1921, as he looked at the trees and listened to the birds singing, God spoke in his heart and said, "YOU BELONG TO ME: I WILL USE IN MY KINGDOM SOMEDAY."

Even before Loran was born, God was working things out in his life.  Loran's father, Eldon, was injured as a young boy and was not expected to live.  An aunt came to pray for his healing.  After several days God began to work and Eldon was healed.  Aunt Zelpe prophesied at this time, "This young man is going to be a man of God; and his faith, or that of his seed, will circle the globe."

Loran was raised in a devout Christian home and had a marvelous conversion experience on January 22, 1933 at the age of sixteen and received the call to the ministry.  On the night of his conversion he kept his brother Richard awake until the early hours of the morning with his excitement about Jesus and could not keep quiet.

Loran served in the ministry almost 75 years,  He entered into Heaven on June the 13th, 2006.  He spent his life focused on Jesus, faithfully proclaiming God's eternal truths.  Through his ministry, several churches were raised up in the United States and in several foreign countries.  Through the leadership of the Holy Spirit he traveled to Israel numerous times, as well as India, Africa and Europe in an effort to love people and encourage them to obey Jesus.  He led many to the saving grace of Jesus during his ministry, but the focal point of his message was obedience to God through the leadership of the Holy Spirit and adherence to the Bible.  The basic themes of his teaching include the cross (to be taken up by each individual), self-denial, obedience to the Holy Spirit in everyday life, sanctification, trusting God, loving one another and the glorious church.  These are basic truths which are profound and yet are seldom preached today.

Loran attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana and received his undergraduate degree from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.  Later he received hid Doctorate of Divinity from Rocky Mountain University in Colorado.  Because of his ministry's support of Israel through the years he received the Jerusalem Award in 1983 from Prime Minister Menachem Begin and the Shalom Award from the Israeli government's Ministery of Tourism in 1988.

A VOICE IN THE WILDERNESS is a recounting of some of his life experiences in walking with God and some of the truths and revelations that he learned along the way.  It is more than a book about a man though.  It is a book about Jesus, the all sufficient Savior and all-loving Lord; about what he can and will do with a life truly yielded to Him

Evangel Voice Missions is continuing this endeavor.  By continuing to seek the will of God in the printing and distribution of A VOICE IN THE WILDERNESS around the world, the prophetic words of Aunt Zelpe continue to be fulfilled.
