"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you..."    John 15:16

Rev. Loran W. Helm was born in the small village of Parker, Indiana on February 3, 1916 and resides there today with his wife Florence.  He was raised in a devout Christian home and was soundly converted on January 22, 1933 at the age of 16 and received the call to the ministry.  On the night of his conversion he kept his younger brother Richard, with whom he shared a bed, awake until the early hours of the morning because he was so excited about Jesus and could not keep quiet.  Seventeen years later his brother confessed to him that the night Loran went to the altar he thought he would be like most saved people and soon become lukewarm and lose out.  But before morning came the next day, he had changed his mind about him.

Several years subsequent to his conversion the Lord called Rev. Helm to leave everything and trust God in a life of obedience to the Holy Spirit.  Many thought he could not make it in a life like that, but because it was the true leading of the Holy Spirit to do so, God was faithful and his ministry prospered.

Through his ministry several churches have been raised up throughout the United States and several foreign countries.  At the leadership of the Holy Spirit he has traveled to Israel numerous times, as well as to India, Africa and Europe in an effort to love people and to encourage them to obey the Lord.  He has led many to the Lord during his ministry, but the focal point of his message is obedience to God through the leadership of the Holy Spirit and adherence to the Bible.  The basic themes of his teaching include the cross (to be taken up by each individual), self-denial, obedience to the Holy Spirit in the everyday life, sanctification, trusting God, loving one another and the glorious church.  They contain basic truths that are profound and seldom preached today.

Loran Helm has served almost seventy years in the ministry.  At age 85, he is still encouraging others, is focused on Jesus and faithfully proclaiming God’s eternal truths.  Those who have had the privilege of crossing paths with this servant of God have witnessed first-hand a truly vibrant walk with the Lord that is indeed expressed by “joy unspeakable and full of glory.”  The most inspiring thing about him to those who meet him is this:  for Loran Helm, life IS Christ.  Walking with God is his passion and he is the same at home or at the grocery store as he is in the pulpit.

His message and autobiography can be read in A Voice In The Wilderness and is recounted in the context of his life experiences in walking with God.  However, it is more than a book about a man.  It is a book about Jesus, the all-sufficient Savior and all-loving Lord; about what He can and will do with a life truly yielded to him!  God bless you greatly as you enjoy this adventure with Jesus our Lord!
